Miss Monteforte's classroom information for Grade 1 Room 14
During the school year, we have so much learning and developing to achieve and time flies by so fast; therefore, to help our classroom run smoothly and help students develop healthy school habits. During the first few weeks of school, we will spend time developing daily routines and rulesto follow. We will work hard learning and practicing these expectations so our classroom will become an exciting and engaging learning environment. Working Together ALL year In 1st grade, Social Studies focuses on building a community, so in my classroom I considerour classroom a CLASSROOM FAMILY. Together, we will support our student every step of the way in academic and developmental areas. Please keep me posted on your student's happenings so I can be ready to better serve their needs. Snacks/Drinks - We will have a 15-minute movement/snack break in the morning. Please provide one healthy snack and drink. Please choose SMALL (4-6oz) healthy drinks. I only allow water bottles that fit in the side pocket of student's backpack, no larger, students should not come to school carry water bottles. Also, ensure all liquids containers are leak proof to avoid spillage. Lunch- If your student is getting a school lunch, please complete the school Lunch Menu Form every month and send it back to school. Lunch is free but if your student brings a home lunch and would like a milk, the milk cost is $0.50 and should be noted on the Lunch Menu Form and returned with $. Also, if your student brings a home lunch, please ensure it is safely packed for freshness and free from leakage or spillage. You will have to provide utensils for we don't always have extras. Classroom Expectations - It is important to have safety procedures, rules, and routines in our classroom. We establish a safe, creative, and fun environment for all students to succeed. All students are expected to follow school and classroom safety procedures, rules, and routines. We learn about being kind and respectful to each other, as well as to our classroom and school. For some, it takes time to settle in, if I notice a student struggling, I will contact you to discuss ways we can support our student to succeed. HOME Folders - Students will be given a colorful folderthat will be used for homework and home notices. Students are expected to bring folders home andback to school daily. Homework - Homework is the extension of the skills and concepts we learn during our school day. Nightly homework is assigned, and students are expected to complete assignments and return them to school the following day. Nightly reading is also required. To help build strong homework habits, I suggest that after homework is complete, student puts it into their HOME Folder and then backpack to avoid forgetting it. Sending Money $ - It is important that if you send money to school, please put it in an envelope or plastic bag with the student's name, room #14, the amount, and the reason for the money to avoid any issues or confusion. Classroom Storage: We have limited space; therefore, all student belongings will always be kept in their backpack during the school day for easy access. This allows students easy access to their belongings without concern of loss or misplaced items. School Hours - 7:40 - 2:00 pm. We meet for arrival and dismissal in the fenced in area of the school yard unless otherwise notified. Please make sure your student comes to school on-time. Being on-time not only develops healthy school habits, but it also ensures students won't miss specials or crucial learning and bonding time or disrupt classroom flow. Also, please let your student know who is picking them up or they are going to EDP and ensure you are on time at dismissal because I teach afterschool.
Band - first graders can only take violon. Band begins in October and runs through year end with a final concert. Band meets once a week on Thursdays. This is a great opportunity for your student to learn about music and make friends after school. They can bring a snack, and most times get their homework completed.
Dress Code: Please follow dress code which can be found on the tab "Uniforms" on my teacher page. No shoes or sneakers other than black or blue. No light-up or sparkling sneakers are allowed, only on NUT days. During inclement weather, boots are allowed to be worn to school but then switched into shoes. Also, please ensure you students shoelaces are tied or buy shoes with Velcro. Long or untied laces are a safety hazard. At this age, they are not at the stage for tying shoes, this happens around 2nd grade.
