Welcome to my page! My name is Patricia Jackson and this is my 46th year teaching at Cheverus. For the upcoming school year, I will be teaching Religion to Grade 6-21 and to Grade 7
Grade 6 focuses on the Old Testament and Grade 7 focuses on the history of the Church.
I will also be teaching ELA to Grades 6, 7, and 8.
Middle School English Language Arts (ELA) consists of English grammar, literature, writing, and vocabulary.
The emphasis in the English grammar curriculum is on parts of speech and their different uses. This year we have a brand English book. It is Voyages in English by Loyola Press. Since the book is brand new, I highly recommend that students cover their books to keep them in good condition.
The literature component of ELA involves the reading and discussion of various genres. Students are quizzed on each story upon completion.
Writing requires that students become familiar with a variety of styles including: opinion, persuasive, compare/contrast, narrative, and poetry. Cheverus teaches the Collins Writing Program.
Vocabulary is taught using leveled Vocabulary Workshop books. Students will have a quiz on each Unit when completed.
Students have homework almost every night in one of the subjects. They are graded on homework, tests, and quizzes. Oral participation is highly encouraged.
Students may bring in cookies, brownies, or something small to pass out to their classmates at snack time for their birthday (only water is allowed in the classroom).
Please email me and let me know ahead of time if your child will be bringing in a small treat. There are no pizza parties in middle school.
If you have any questions or concerns during the year, feel free to email me at [email protected].
